Among the other changes that are reportedly in the works is restricting the presence of family during the overseas tour.
The BCCI is reportedly working on bringing back an old rule that was present during Virat Kohli’s tenure as the Indian captain to address fitness concerns within the team.
This development comes after India’s 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand at home and 1-3 drubbing on the tour of Australia.
According to a TOI report, the Indian board could look to revive the yo-yo test to once again improve the fitness standards within the team and make it a criterion for being selected.
An unnamed source within the BCCI has also suggested that since the governing body decided to not use this test in recent times, players have taken undue advantage of it.
“The board had gone lenient on the players since they are mostly on the road. The focus had shifted to just injury prevention. This has been taken lightly by some players. It is being mooted that a certain fitness level criteria needs to be reintroduced so that complacency doesn’t creep in," the source stated.
Among the other changes that are reportedly in the works is restricting the presence of family during the overseas tour. It is understood that the players were was spending more time with their families rather than with the squad, which saw a lack of team bonding. This also includes certain players opting to travel separately, which can be a disruptive effort for the team.
For now, however, the focus will be on the upcoming white-ball series (five T20Is and three ODIs) against England at home. The 50-over series will likely serve as preparatory grounds for the Indian selectors to decide the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, slated to be held in Pakistan and UAE from February 19 to March 9.
