The intriguing situation of Prithvi Shaw continues to cause repercussions. No one knows what went wrong with the 25-year-old, who was once regarded as Indian cricket's blue-eyed boy.

Shaw rose to prominence in 2018 after winning the U19 World Cup, causing everyone to take note of his abilities.  Shaw, however, has been a squandered opportunity in Indian cricket, except for his Test debut for India, in which he scored a century.

Shaw has only played 12 international matches for India, and to make matters worse, he has been axed from Mumbai's team for the first three matches of the forthcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Prithvi Shaw had an average performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and he was harshly chastised for his fitness difficulties. He went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction after being released by the Delhi Capitals.

Shaw, who's been quiet this while, finally spoke up on all that's been happening around him lately, and reacted to his omission by putting his List-A stats on Instagram and saying, "I'm not good enough."

However, the Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) decision-makers have a different perspective on the scenario. Shaw's fitness and discipline difficulties are undeniably a concern for management.

"The fitness concern is there, but the performance is also not there currently. He needs to work on his fitness, discipline and performance. The main issue is the fitness. You see the matches. You get the image, right? Just by looking at his frame, the fitness issues are there for everyone to see," a source within the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) told Hindustan Times.

While Mumbai won the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, Shaw couldn’t muster 200 runs in the tournament. In all likelihood, Shaw's performances have gone against his selection in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which begins December 21.

"We hope he works on these issues and makes a strong comeback. We all know his talent. It is just about him putting in the hard yards," the source stated further.

There's still time. Only one man can bail Shaw out of trouble and it's Prithvi himself.
