England batter Harry Brook, who was set to play for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2024, decided to skip the tournament after the death of his grandmother, will now make his cricketing return in County Championship.

Brook was named in the England squad for the India Test tour and had traveled to Abu Dhabi for the camp, but returned home due to personal reasons. He then decided to skip the Indian Test series and then the IPL 2024, as he revealed that he had lost his grandmother.

But it seems that Brook will be returning to cricketing action in Yorkshire’s opening game against Leicestershire, scheduled to start on April 5 at the Headingley in Leeds. Otis Gibson, the Yorkshire head coach, updated on Brook’s return to competitive cricket.

"Now that Brooky isn't going to the IPL, I suspect he's going to be available for us for the first few games, including [against] Leicestershire. He loves playing for us, and Rooty is also going to be available for some games in that early period. Having those two playing for us would be special," Gibson told the official Yorkshire website.

Brook played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2023 season, but barring a century against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens, he faltered. After SRH released him, the Delhi Capitals picked him up for INR 4 crores.

Gibson, in the meantime, also said that Joe Root will also be available for Yorkshire in the early stages of the County Championship.

"He [Brook] loves playing for us, and Rooty is also going to be available for some games in that early period. Having those two playing for us would be special," Gibson added.

In reaction to the same, India cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra shared his thoughts on Brook’s cricketing return and posted on X: “Good to see Harry Brook being available for the start of the county season. Wish him well.”
