Bumrah took 12 wickets in the recently held two-Test series against South Africa.
The right-arm quick played an instrumental role in India’s Asia Cup 2023 triumph and then made the batters dance to his tunes in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup last year.
During the recently held South Africa tour, Bumrah made his return to red-ball cricket and instantly made an impact. He finished the two-match Test series with 12 wickets to his name and earned the Player-of-the-Series award.
The highlight of his performance was a hostile spell in South Africa’s second innings at Newlands. He returned with a six-wicket haul (6/61) to script India’s series-levelling seven-wicket victory.
Impressed with his display, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has claimed that Test cricket will flourish if every team has a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah in their ranks.
"If you are prioritizing red-ball cricket even after surgery, you won't get a bigger brand ambassador than him in bowling. If every country gets a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah, Test cricket will keep flourishing," said Pathan while speaking to Star Sports.
Irfan Pathan also showered rich praise on Bumrah's attitude, especially after his recovery from back surgery.
"I have fallen in love with Jasprit Bumrah's attitude, especially the way he has bowled after back surgery. He is not only an inspiration for Indian cricket but also for world cricket," he added.
Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be rested for India’s upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. He is likely to return to action for the five-match Test series against England, starting on January 25 in Hyderabad.
