Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has broken silence over his viral video showing middle finger to fans chanting Virat Kohli's name as he walked past them.

Gambhir was seen talking on the phone when he heard the "Kohli, Kohli" chants. The ex-opener then turned towards them and showed his middle finger.

However, Gambhir on Monday (September 4) cleared the air, saying that not everything shown on social media is true and his reaction came after some Pakistani fans shouted anti India slogans and also passed comments on Kashmir.

“The crowd that was made up of Pakistani fans were shouting anti india slogans were also passing comments on Kashmir. As an Indian I can’t take anyone saying this about my country hence reacted this way. What you see on social media isn’t always the correct picture,” Gambhir told reporters.

Gautam Gambhir is currently in Sri Lanka where he is part of the commentary team for the Asia Cup 2023.

The viral clip in which Gambhir showed his middle finger seems to be from the India versus Pakistan match, which was held in Pallekele on Saturday (September 2).

The high-voltage encounter ended in a no-result as incessant rain played spoilsport in the second innings after India posted 266 on the board batting first.
