Kapil Dev was unhappy with top players skipping domestic cricket.
According to Kapil, all elite players should participate in a sufficient quantity of domestic cricket because doing so not only improves their form but also increases the likelihood that their team will succeed.
"Domestic cricket is most important. How many domestic matches has Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, or any of the other top players played in recent times? I think the top players must play a decent amount of domestic matches so that it helps the next generation of players," Kapil told Times of India.
BCCI president Roger Binny had said that domestic cricket should be the ideal platform for emerging youngsters, out-of-form or injured stars to make a comeback into the senior team. But it doesn't look like such a process has been made compulsory by the board.
Furthermore, Kapil Dev also said that Sanju Samson alone shoudln't be criticized for his non-performance on the tour of the West Indies, as the team failed as a unit.
"It's not right to talk about Sanju Samson alone. We are talking about the Indian team. I think he is a great player and a wonderful talent. But he has to apply himself more," he said.
Indian team’s next ODI assignment will be the Asia Cup 2023 where the management is likely to finalize their squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup at home.
