Not thinking about Indian selection: Prithvi Shaw after his whirlwind 244 in Royal London One-Day Cup

Prithvi Shaw hasn’t played for India since July 2021.

After an impressive start to his international career, Prithvi Shaw has fallen behind in the packing order. The last time he played for the country was back in July 2021 in a T20I game against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

On Wednesday (August 9), Shaw shattered records as he smashed a dazzling double hundred while playing for Northamptonshire against Somerset in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup 2023.

Opening the innings, Shaw took the Somerset bowling attack to the cleaners. He got out in the 50th over of the innings after scoring 244 off 153 balls, including 28 fours and 11 sixes.

After his blistering knock, Prithvi Shaw said he is not thinking about Indian selection and rather focusing on enjoying his time with Northants.

"Definitely experience for sure. Not really thinking what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here, have a good time with the players over here and the support staff. Northamptonshire have given me this opportunity... they're really looking after me. I'm really enjoying it," Shaw was quoted as saying.

Thanks to his whirlwind innings, Northamptonshire racked up a colossal 415/8 on the board and defeated Somerset by 87 runs.

Reflecting on his knock, Prithvi said: "The sun was out, it was kind of like Indian weather today so it was really looking good. You know when an inside edge doesn't get me out, that means this day is for me. You have to be lucky sometimes, so I think this was a day for me. I didn't look back after that.”

Shaw’s previous double hundred in List A cricket came while playing for Mumbai against Puducherry in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy. The right-hander had struck an unbeaten 227 back then.

"The 227 was in my head to be honest. I spoke to Whitey [Whiteman] when he was there and I told him it's 227, my highest score. But it was a good team effort all around. I always try and win matches for the team and I'm the kind of a player who puts my team first and then myself. If scoring like this can help my team to win, then I should continue this," he remarked.
