India captain Rohit Sharma spoke about the workload management and a host of senior players skipping playing T20Is for India in the ongoing season.

The focus was on the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Mohammad Shami, who haven’t played any T20I since the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final against England. One can add Ravindra Jadeja to that list as well, as he along with Kohli and Rohit was rested for the ongoing West Indies T20I series as well.

Breaking silence over his T20I absence, Rohit admitted that it is 'not possible' for some players to play all formats, especially keeping this year's ODI World Cup in mind.

WI v IND 2023: “He told me you are an all-format cricketer,” Tilak Varma credits Rohit Sharma for his success

"At the moment I think it was made clear in the past that it's a 50-over World Cup year for us. And for some of the guys, it's not possible to play all formats. If you look at the schedule, there were back-to-back matches, so we decided to just looking at some players' workload that we wanted to make sure that they get enough break time and manage them. I fall in that (category) as well," Rohit said at an event in the United States of America, as per Indian Express.

The BCCI has been big on workload management of key players keeping the World Cup 2023 in mind and hence fitness of key players like Rohit, Kohli, Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, and others has been monitored very closely.

Hardik Pandya has been handed the captaincy of the T20I team in Rohit’s absence and speculations are rife that he might officially become the full-time captain in the shortest format after the ODI World Cup.
