India’s star batter Virat Kohli often gets compared with his compatriot Sachin Tendulkar because of his dominance in international cricket over the years.

After enduring a lean patch, Kohli is back to scoring runs consistently. He slammed his 29th century in red-ball cricket during the just-concluded second Test against West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval.

Virat now has 76 hundreds to his name across formats, only behind the legendary Tendulkar’s tally of 100 international tons. He has played 111 Tests, 274 ODIs and 115 T20Is so far, amassing more than 25000 international runs.

On the other hand, Tendulkar played 200 Tests and 463 ODIs for India, scoring the world record number of runs (15921 in Tests and 18426 in ODIs) and centuries (51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs).

Recently, West Indies pace legend Curtly Ambrose was asked to compare the two Indian batting giants but he refrained from doing it.

"I wouldn’t want to compare both players," Ambrose said in an interview with RevSportz, before lauding both Tendulkar and Kohli for their achievements.

"Sachin Tendulkar was a great player, and achieved just about everything in cricket. You can’t take away from his cricketing knowledge and the way he played. I’m not the kind of guy who would like to compare," he added.

"When you’re a great player and going through a lean patch, like Virat Kohli in the last couple of years where he hadn’t scored a century outside India, people tend to look at him and say ‘Oh, he’s over the hill, he’s struggling cause he hasn’t scored a century,’ and all that stuff. It’s unfair. Every great player goes through a patch where they fail to score hundreds or fail to be consistent. He is still a quality player, I’m really happy he got a hundred. Unfortunately, it’s against the West Indies, but that should do his confidence a world of good, and shut up some people who think he is over the hill. He’s not, he still has a lot to contribute to Indian cricket and cricket in general," Ambrose further remarked.

Virat Kohli will now be seen in action during the three-match ODI series against West Indies, starting January 27 in Barbados.
