Malaysia's Syazrul Idrus creates history, becomes first bowler to take 7 wickets in a men’s T20I match

The best bowling figures in full member teams is by Deepak Chahar who took 6/7.

Malaysian seamer Syazrul Idrus created history against China in the opening match of the T20 World Cup Asia B Qualifier at Bayuemas Oval, as he picked seven wickets for his team and became the first bowler in T20I history to do so.

32-year-old Syazrul Idrus, who had previously played in 22 T20Is, delivered an outstanding performance taking 7/8, breaking the previous record held by Nigerian Peter Aho for the best bowling figures, who had taken 6/5.

China had opted to bat first against Malaysia but struggled against Malaysian bowlers and was bowled out for 23 in 11.2 overs. None of their batters managed to score double-digit runs, with opener Wei Guo Lei top scoring with just 7, with six others getting ducks.

Among full members of the ICC, India's Deepak Chahar holds the record for the best bowling figures in a T20I, claiming 6 for 7 against Bangladesh in 2019. This performance from Chahar is the joint third best overall, alongside Dinesh Nakrani, who achieved the same figures for Uganda against Lesotho in 2021.

Frederique Overdijk of the Netherlands women’s team, currently holds the best bowling figures in a T20I, both for male and female players, with an extraordinary 7 for 3 against France in 2021.

Before Idrus, a total of six bowlers had taken 6 wickets in men’s T20Is which includes Yuzvendra Chahal of India as well apart from Chahar. Australia's spinner Ashton Agar, and Sri Lanka's tweaker Ajantha Mendis also picked 6 wickets in a T20I innings.
