Over 250 people were killed and more than 900 people were injured in an accident involving three trains in Odisha's Balasore on Friday (June 2).

Two passenger trains — Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express— and a goods train were involved in the mishap that was triggered by a derailment.

The impact was so hard that coaches were lifted high into the air before they smashed onto the tracks. One coach was tossed on its roof. Seventeen coaches of the two trains were severely damaged.

Many passengers were still feared trapped in the overturned coaches and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is working to pull the bodies out.

The Railways Ministry has ordered an investigation into what may have caused the crash.

As soon as the unfortunate news came out, current and former Indian cricketers took to Twitter to express their grief and offer their deepest condolences to the victims’ families.
