Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi made a big statement on Mohammad Amir’s possible comeback to international cricket after the pacer was allowed to train at the National High-Performance Centre in Lahore.

Notably, Amir announced his retirement from Test cricket in 2019 and then retired from all formats of the game in 2020, citing mental torture from the team management. However, ever since Sethi has returned to the helm, there have been a lot of talks about the pacer coming out of retirement.

Reacting to the same, Sethi made it clear that the Pakistan cricket team’s doors are open for Amir if he wants to come out of retirement, saying he would not stop him from representing his country at the highest level once again.

The PCB chief also mentioned how Amir made a comeback after serving a five-year ban for his involvement in spot-fixing while taking a dig at Ramiz Raja for his recent remarks.

Najam Sethi was quoted as saying by Arab News: “I will not stop Mohammad Amir if he wants to make himself available to play for Pakistan again. A player who has admitted his guilt, helped the ICC to stop match-fixing and corruption, and then paid a five-year penalty for being outside of cricket deserves to come back.”

Taking a dig at Raja, Sethi said: “Mohammad Amir thinks he is not dealt with fairly by the previous regime of PCB, including selection committee and chairman Ramiz Raja.”

Notably, the former PCB chief, Raja, said that he would never allow tainted players to represent Pakistan.

He signed off by saying, “Ramiz Raja thinks whoever has committed corruption in cricket should never be allowed to play for Pakistan again. This is not my view. I believe someone who has paid the penalty should be allowed to make a comeback for Pakistan.”
