India’s pace sensation Umran Malik might not have had many opportunities to make a really big impact in 2022, but he was still one of the most talked about players in the cricket fraternity in the world.

Umran gained attention after he consistently bowled over 150 km/h for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2022. His successful outing for SRH in the IPL last year earned him a place in the Indian cricket team, and many have been speaking highly of the young speedster.

Given his express pace, many have compared Umran to Pakistan's Shoaib Akhtar, even predicting that the pacer will break the former pacer's record for the fastest delivery (161 kph vs New Zealand, 2002).

However, Umran stressed that he is not thinking about breaking Akhtar’s world record; if he manages to do that, it would be great, but he is presently only focusing on performing well for Team India.

Umran Malik was quoted as saying by News24: “Right now, I'm only thinking about performing well for the country. If I do well, and if I'm lucky, I'll break that. But I don't think about it at all.”

He signed off by saying, “You don't get to realise how fast you've bowled during the match. It's only when we come back after the game when we get to know how fast I was. During the game, my only focus is on bowling in the right areas and picking wickets.”

Malik will be seen in action in the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka starting January 2nd.
