Pant met with a horrific car accident on Friday morning on Delhi-Dehradun expressway.
Pant was on the way to meet his family before he would have checked into the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for a knee-strengthening rehabilitation programme for two weeks.
The wicketkeeper-batter dozed off while driving and lost control of his Mercedes car, ramming it into the divider and causing the crash.
After the accident, the BCCI released an official statement, providing an update on Rishabh’s condition and the list of injuries he suffered.
“Rishabh has two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee and has also hurt his right wrist, ankle, toe and has suffered abrasion injuries on his back. Rishabh’s condition remains stable, and he has now been shifted to Max Hospital, Dehradun, where he will undergo MRI scans to ascertain the extent of his injuries and formulate his further course of treatment,” the BCCI statement read.
“The BCCI is in constant touch with Rishabh’s family while the Medical Team is in close contact with the doctors currently treating Rishabh. The Board will see to it that Rishabh receives the best possible medical care and gets all the support he needs to come out of this traumatic phase,” it added.
Besides the Indian cricket board, Rishabh Pant’s teammates have also shown care for him. According to a report published in The Indian Express, India skipper Rohit Sharma has spoken to the southpaw’s doctors from Maldives, where he is currently holidaying with his family.
Furthermore, several Indian cricketers have been in contact with Pant's family and enquiring about his health status.
The same report also claims that BCCI’s office in Mumbai has received plenty of phone calls from the fans wanting to know about Pant’s injury, his possible return to action on the cricket field, and the hospital he has been admitted to.
Rishabh Pant is a key player for India, especially in the longest format, in the last two years. His absence from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home in February-March could impact India’s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final.
Meanwhile, the Indian fans will be hoping and praying for Pant’s quick recovery and comeback on the field.
