Dubai Capitals sign England’s Joe Root for the ILT20 tournament

This will be Joe Root's second stint in a foreign t20 league after BBL 2018-19.

Former England captain Joe Root has been signed by the Dubai Capitals franchise to play in the upcoming International League T20 tournament (ILT20) to be played in UAE next year onwards. For Root, it will be his second stint in a foreign T20 league after playing for Sydney Thunder in the BBL in 2018-19.

The Dubai Capitals is owned by GMR group, the co-owners of the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, and will be captained by Rovman Powell and coached by Phil Simmons.

Joe Root has been signing up for T20 assignments around the world ever since he was relieved from his captaincy duties for England. He is also no longer in England’s plans for T20Is and this has led him to have some more free time on his hands.

In a bid to put forth his name in England’s ODI plans for the next year’s ICC World Cup in India, Root has also put his name in the upcoming IPL 2023 auction which takes place on December 23 in Kochi.

Before that, Joe Root will be playing for the ILT20 league in UAE as the Dubai Capitals announced his signing on Twitter.

Joe Root will be joining former India cricketers like Robin Uthappa and Yusuf Pathan and other international stars like Dushmantha Chameera, Hazratullah Zazai, Dasun Shanaka, and Dan Lawrence to name a few.
