Arjun Tendulkar hit a maiden Ranji century for Goa on his debut emulating father Sachin.
Young all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar created a special record as he emulated his legendary father, Sachin Tendulkar, by scoring a century on his First-Class debut, for Goa against Rajasthan in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season.
Arjun, who had made his domestic white-ball debut for Mumbai, moved to Goa in pursuit of more opportunities and made his debut against Rajasthan and scored 120 runs helping Goa post 547/9 declared and added 221 runs for the sixth wicket with Suyash Prabhudessai who made 212.
The young all-rounder was recently trained by former India cricketer Yograj Singh, who is the father of Yuvraj Singh. Yograj had trained Yuvraj Singh meticulously, transforming him into a brilliant batter and all-rounder who went on to play 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is for India from 2000-2017.
Yograj Singh, who himself played one Test and 6 ODIs for India in the 1980-81 season, set up a 'boot camp' for young Arjun during his short yet fruitful stay in Chandigarh.
"In the first week of September, I got a call from Yuvi (Yuvraj), saying, ‘Dad, Arjun will be in Chandigarh for two weeks and Sachin has requested if you have time to train him’. How could I have said no to Sachin, he is like my elder son. But I had one condition. I told Yuvi, ‘You know my way of training and I don’t want anyone to intervene’,” Yograj told The Indian Express.
Here are a few glimpses of Arjun Tendulkar's batting prowess:
Yograj revealed that Arjun's two-week stay in Chandigarh with the former cricketer was nothing but a boot camp-like experience for Tendulkar's son.
Arjun woke up a 5 am and ran for 2 hours followed by a gym session where he didn't lift heavy weights. Yograj advised Arjun to do bodyweight exercises which can minimize the chances of a potential injury.
“I had told him that he must forget he is Sachin Tendulkar’s son for the next 15 days. I feel he was mollycoddled by coaches because he is Tendulkar’s son. I told him that he needs to get out of his father’s shadow. When I saw him batting, I thought this guy could be a destroyer. I immediately gave feedback to Sachin and Yuvraj. I called Sachin and asked him why he didn’t focus more on Arjun’s batting,” Yograj added.
Yograj Singh congratulated Arjun Tendulkar for his debut Ranji ton and posted some photos on his Instagram account with message saying: “Many more centuries to come son! @arjuntendulkar24. Keep yourself focused and head straight towards goal. Guru Mantra. Congratulations to @sachintendulkar and family.”
