Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh on Tuesday (September 20) called for the need to recognize the achievements of ex-cricketers whether it is international or domestic.

Yuvraj’s comments came after he and legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh were honoured by the Punjab Cricket Association ahead of the first T20I between India and Australia in Mohali.

Yuvraj and Harbhajan, the T20 and ODI World Cup winners, turned up at the PCA stadium as two stands named after them were unveiled in that venue.

“It’s a nice feeling to be back at the PCA Stadium like this. I am wearing the BCCI blazer at my own stadium for the first time. It feels wonderful to be called by my former parent association and get acknowledged,” Yuvraj told PTI.

“The new PCA president Gulzari Inder Chahal was a cricketer himself and probably knows the importance of recognizing former cricketers be it domestic or international. Even the domestic players should be recognized,” he added.

Besides, the state cricket association also honoured former Punjab cricketers Bharti Vij, Mahesh Inder Singh, current India selector Harvinder Singh, Bhupinder Singh Sr and current India batting coach Vikram Rathour.

After retiring from international cricket in 2019, Yuvraj Singh has worked with young players like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. However, he isn’t ready to commit to full time coaching at this stage.

“I still work with the players on and off. I have worked with the Punjab Cricketers in the past as well. But I want to see my child growing up. So, I am not sure if I can commit to something full time to the association at this stage,” he stated.
