IRE v AFG 2022: Rashid Khan included as Afghanistan name 16-member squad for Ireland T20Is

The five-match T20I series will get underway on August 9.

Afghanistan have named their 16-member squad for the five-match T20I series against Ireland. Ace spinner Rashid Khan has also been included in the team despite his commitments in The Hundred league. 

The T20I series between the teams will begin on 9th August followed by the second and third games on 11th and 12th August. The last two matches are slated to take place on 15th and 17th August respectively. All the games will be played at Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast. 

The team will be led by Mohammad Nabi with the likes of Ibrahim Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Naveen-ul-Haq also featuring in the squad. On the other hand, spinners Qais Ahmad and Mujeeb ur Rahman have been added as reserves.

Talking about the squad selection, Afghanistan’s chief selector Noor Malikzai said that they have had good results in the past and they are hoping for the same in the Ireland series followed by Asia Cup and T20 World Cup 2022.

We have had good results in our recent tours, the squad has done well recently and we are looking forward to having good results again in Ireland and then in the Asia Cup and World Cup," he said.
