Trott served as the England team's batting coach for their 2021 tour of India.
Former England batter Jonathan Trott was named the new coach of Afghanistan on Friday (July 22), taking over after Graham Thorpe, who had to resign due to health reasons.
He will take over the reins in August when the Afghanistan team will fly to Ireland for a five-match T20I series before the T20 World Cup down under in October.
"I'm honored and excited to have the opportunity to take one of international cricket's most exciting teams through what is a huge year for their development as a team," Trott said.
After leaving the England batting coach post following a 4-0 Ashes loss, he accepted the position of head coach for Afghanistan.

The 41-year-old had served as the batting coach for the England team on their tour to India in 2021.
The former cricketer-turned-coach has represented his country in 52 Tests and 68 ODIs, scoring 3835 and 2819 runs respectively.
Former English batter and assistant coach Thorpe fell seriously ill in May.
The 5 T20Is in Ireland will be played out on the 09th, 11th,12th,15th, and 17th of August.
