Sunil Gavaskar, an Indian cricket legend, has expressed concern about the increasing number of hamstring injuries in Team India and has asked the BCCI to investigate why the number of hamstring injuries has increased in recent months.

Notably, Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the South Africa tour due to a hamstring injury in December 2021, a few months after Deepak Chahar was hit by the same issue, and he is yet to make a comeback. Apart from the duo, KL Rahul has also been out of action due to a hamstring injury.

Gavaskar said on Sports Today: “Injuries can happen at any time. You can be the world's fittest player and you can get injured. That's the nature of the sport. You can't be 100 percent sure.”

The former captain continued, “Ideally, you want them to be available for India every single time. If you look at the workload, you might ask them to not play some matches. But when you want to play for your country, you want to play every single game. It's about that honor.”

He signed off by saying, “In Rohit Sharma's case, it was Covid and it can happen anytime. But I think the one thing the Indian cricket board should be looking at is why are players having hamstring injuries. You can have an ankle injury, or knee injury while, say, trying to stop the ball. But why are Indian players suffering from hamstring injuries? That is something the board have to look at.”
