The Indian team will travel to Zimbabwe for three ODI matches next month, which are reportedly part of the ICC ODI Super League. The matches are of immense significance for the home team as the points from the series will count towards the qualification for next year's ODI World Cup.

They are, however, not as important for India, the hosts of the event, as Rohit Sharma's side had directly qualified for the pinnacle event next October.

While the dates have not been announced officially, Cricbuzz has reported that the three matches have been tentatively scheduled for August 18, 20, and 22 respectively.

India will a total of six ODIs virtually back-to-back against England and West Indies which are not part of the ICC ODI Super League.

"We are absolutely delighted to host India and we look forward to a competitive and memorable series,” a Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) official told Cricbuzz on Friday (July 8).

Meanwhile, the Technical Director of the Zimbabwe team, Lalchand Rajput said: "It's a big opportunity for the players to play against the Indian players and for the cricketing fraternity in Zimbabwe. It will create a lot of interest amongst the younger generation to take up this game. Overall, the series is very good for Zimbabwe cricket.”

The last time India toured Zimbabwe was in 2016 when MS Dhoni captained the side for three ODIs and three T20Is.

However, this time, no T20I matches will be played as India is supposed to play in the Asia Cup just a week after the third ODI ends. It is also expected that India may again field two different sides simultaneously.
