“Full freedom to plot such run-outs with Buttler” Sehwag congratulates Ashwin after MCC amend 'Mankading' law

The Mankading mode of run out is no longer in unfair play and MCC moved it to run out category.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag congratulated India spinner R Ashwin after the MCC revised the cricketing rules and moved the Mankading mode of dismissal, where the non-striker can be run out by the bowler for leaving his crease before he delivers the ball, from unfair play to run out category.

 “Law 41.16 – running out the non-striker – has been moved from Law 41 (Unfair play) to Law 38 (Runout). The wording of the Law remains the same,” the MCC said in a media statement late on Tuesday.

Thanks to this new ruling the spirit of cricket debate on this mode of dismissal will come to an end. Such types of dismissals have often triggered debates amongst the cricketing fraternity, with some supporting this mode and some in opposition.

Ashwin became famous for using this mode of dismissal when he mankaded Jos Buttler during a match in IPL 2019 in Jaipur. And after the dismissal, Buttler was involved in a heated debate with Ashwin that sparked an international debate on the “spirit of cricket”.

Now with Mankading made fair, Virender Sehwag didn’t lose any time in tagging R Ashwin in his tweet and congratulated him. He also said that now he has full freedom to plot such dismissals and asked him to atleast make such a dismissal once.

“Congratulations @ashwinravi99, great week this one. First becoming second highest wicket taker in Tests for India, and now this. Ab full freedom to plot such run-outs with Buttler. Ek karna zaroor,” Sehwag tweeted.
