Indian cricketer Ishan Kishan on Tuesday (22nd February) talked about the guidance he received from the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He said that it helped him to change his outlook towards his cricketing career.

Ishan Kishan has had an eventful last year. On account of his staggering performances in IPL, the wicketkeeper batter made a cut into the Indian side. Since then he has been a regular feature in the Indian white-ball setup and even played in the T20 World Cup 2022.

The southpaw recently hogged over the headlines after he was brought by Mumbai Indians for a whopping price of INR 15.25 crores in the IPL 2022 auction.

In his short career so far, Ishan Kishan has seen his ups and downs. However, he has been backed by the management and has been often seen receiving words of advice from senior players in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Speaking to Times of India (TOI), Ishan Kishan revealed that in his early days he used to think that something will happen itself. But when he looked at the benchmarks set by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, he decided that this is where he wants to head and be as dedicated as them.

“Initially I used to think 'kuch na kuch achcha hi hoga yaar... bas khelte raho, run banaate raho'. But later my point of view changed. When I look at Rohit bhai, Virat bhai and the benchmarks they've set for themselves, that's where I want to head.

"I want to be as dedicated as they are and emulate them. Earlier I used to think, 'chalo cricket chal raha hai, everything is good,” Ishan Kishan said.

Ishan Kishan further said that it took him a while to understand that he really needs to put in hard yards. He revealed when he talked to Virat Kohli, the former Indian skipper told him that he needs to sacrifice seven out of ten things.

“It took me a while to understand what goes into this whole 'chalte rehna' bit. I gradually began picking up things. For instance, the conversation I had with Virat bhai where he said 'Dus mein se saat cheez tujhe sacrifice karna padega'. Little things,” he said.

Ishan Kishan has so far featured in three ODIs and eight T20Is, scoring 88 and 184 runs respectively. He will next be seen in action when India locks horns against Sri Lanka in the T20I series, starting 24th February.
