Steve Smith moves to no.3; no change in Rohit, Kohli’s Test rankings in latest ICC update

Marnus Labuschagne and Pat Cummins hold the no.1 spot in batting and bowling rankings respectively.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest update for the Test players’ rankings on January 12, 2022, Wednesday. The rankings showed no change for the Indian batter Rohit Sharma (781 points) or Virat Kohli (740 points), who remained on no.5 and no.9 respectively in the top 10.

On the other hand, Australia’s Steve Smith leapfrogged Kane Williamson to go to no.3 spot in the batting rankings, which is led by his teammate Marnus Labuschagne. While England skipper Joe Root and Rohit Sharma rounded up the top five.

Mayank Agarwal has dropped a rung and is the next best-placed Indian in the 13th spot.

If Indian bowlers are concerned, R Ashwin managed to hold on to his second spot with 861 rating points. No other Indian features are in the top-10 rankings of the Test bowlers list. Ashwin also held on to his second spot in the Test all-rounders rankings, which is being led by West Indies Jason Holder.

Pat Cummins with 895 rating points leads the bowling rankings, while Kyle Jamieson moved to the 3rd spot, above Shaheen Afridi.

Thanks to his twin centuries in the SCG Test against England, Australia’s Usman Khawaja has rocketed into the Test batting ranking fray, re-entering at 26th place. The left-hander made 137 and 101 not out across the two innings in his first Test in 3 years.
