Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the fourth match of ongoing Ashes 2021-22 at SCG.

The fourth Test of Ashes 2021-22 at SCG will be a pink Test and will be played in the memory of Glenn McGrath’s late wife Jane, who passed away due to breast cancer in 2008, and will also act as a fundraiser to support patients suffering from the disease.

The SCG Test will be played from 5th January and the third day of the match will be known as Jane McGrath Day.

With Glenn McGrath testing COVID-19 positive, it’s unlikely that he’ll be present at the event to present the pink caps to the teams but it is learned that the former cricketer will be present virtually.

Speaking to Australian media, McGrath Foundation chief executive Holly Masters confirmed about former Australian cricketer returning COVID-19 positive test and wished him and his family good health.

She added that they are grateful to their partners in Australian cricket and at the SCG for their support for Pink Test.

“Glenn has had a PCR test which unfortunately returned a positive result. We wish Glenn and his family good health. We are grateful to our partners at Cricket Australia and the SCG. As well as the England cricket team and the broadcasters for their ongoing support for the Pink Test and look forward to still making this the ‘pinkest’ Ashes,” Holly Masters said.

Coming to the Ashes 2021-22, Australia has retained the trophy with two matches to go. The Pat Cummins-led side scripted a 9-wicket win against England in Gabba and then decimated them in a 275-run thrashing in the day-night Test in Adelaide.

The hosts then pounded visitors by innings and 14 runs in Melbourne to go 3-0 up in the series.
