Pakistani bowling legend Wasim Akram has lauded current captain Babar Azam and his work ethic. Akram even said that Babar is now part of the ‘Fab Four’ batters of the current era, thanks to his form over the past 2-3 years.

Babar is the only batter in the world of cricket who is in the top ten rankings of all three formats at the moment. He holds the top spot in ICC ODI rankings, third in T20I, and ninth in Test listings. Over the past 2-3 years, Babar has made a name for himself by consistently scoring runs in all three formats.

Akram, who was worked with Babar in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), said that with his work ethic and talent, the Pakistan skipper will be consistent with the bat.

He came through the proper ranks, I have worked with him in Karachi Kings as well from last three years. I love his work ethic, he is focused and he’s never satisfied with his performance and that’s a sign of a good leader. I knew at the time, with this boy, with his work ethic, with his talent, he will definitely perform and be consistent,” Wasim told Sport 360.

Akram also said that Babar deserves to be included alongside the likes of Virat Kohli, David Warner, and Joe Root in the fab four and said that he was right up there with Kohli.

And now he’s the part of Fab four. [Virat] Kohli, [David] Warner, [Joe] Root, and Babar is now getting high on top. Kohli is up there with Babar,” he added.

Not stopping there, Wasim even compared Babar to Pakistani batting legends like Javed Miandad, Zaheer Abbas, Younis Khan, and Inzamam Ul Haq amongst others.

You see if you talk about Pakistan batting, you start with Zaheer Abbas, Javed Miandad, Saleem Malik, Inzamam-Ul-Haq, Younis Khan, and Mohammad Yousuf, and then now it’s Babar Azam. The 21st century belongs to Babar Azam, he’s the man. And he’s still got plenty in him,” he added.

Babar also captained the Pakistan team to the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2021, including a historic first-ever win in World Cups over arch-rivals India.
