Former India pacer Ashish Nehra has suggested Jasprit Bumrah for Team India's captaincy role in T20Is after Virat Kohli. Kohli has already announced his decision to quit the T20I captaincy after the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE.

While many are suggesting Rohit Sharma to lead the team, with Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul being the other options for the long term, Nehra believes Bumrah could be the ideal captain. He said the speedster is among the players who feature in the playing eleven of all the formats.

"After Rohit Sharma, we are hearing the names of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul [as contenders]. Rishabh Pant has traveled around the world but has also carried drinks and has even been left out from the team before. KL Rahul returned to Test cricket because Mayank Agarwal was injured...

"So Jasprit Bumrah can be an option too. As Ajay [Jadeja] said, he's sturdy, a certainty in the team, and is always in the XI for all formats. It's nowhere written in the rule book that fast bowlers can't be captains," Nehra told Cricbuzz

Team India will play three T20Is and two Tests against New Zealand after the T20 World Cup at home. With another T20 World Cup scheduled to be played next year in Australia, the board would most probably hand over the leadership to experienced Rohit.

Rohit has proved his worth as a captain for India in whatever opportunities given in the past. He has also led Mumbai Indians to multiple titles wins under his captaincy in IPL.
