Rahul Dravid recently officially applied for the post of Indian head coach.
Batting great Sunil Gavaskar feels that Rahul Dravid applying for the position of Team India’s head coach is just a formality as his experience along with his staggering coaching record makes him the favorite contender for the post.
With Team India’s current head coach Ravi Shastri’s tenure ending after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and him opting against extending his contract, it was learned as per the media reports that Rahul Dravid is all set to become the new Indian head coach.

However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly recently pointed out that he met Rahul Dravid to talk about NCA and they’ve given him a proposal of being the head coach but he hasn’t yet applied for the post.
All these statements vanished when on Tuesday (26th October), a BCCI official told media that the former Indian cricketer has officially applied for the post of head coach.
Reacting to the same Sunil Gavaskar said that he doesn’t think anyone else needs to apply anymore for the post of Indian head coach as Rahul Dravid will be the front runner for the position considering his capability, and that his application for the post is just a formality.
"Without a doubt. I don't think anyone else even needs to apply anymore. The way he has handled the Under-19 team, give them direction, the manner in which he has worked at the NCA, it just shows his capability… not only inside the ground but out of it as well.
“He is good at administrative duties too; he has that capability. And that is why I think him applying for the post is just a formality," Sunil Gavaskar told Sports Tak.
Former Indian all-rounder Madan Lal echoed Sunil Gavaskar and pointed that Rahul Dravid has started coaching from a junior level and he’ll be aware of the players that have come through ranks.

He added that it is the best thing that has happened and there is no better candidate than him that will take the Indian team even higher.
“Like Sunny bhai mentioned, he already has led India A and Under-19 teams to so many tours and recently even coached the national team in Sri Lanka, so when you start coaching from a junior level, you know the players that have come through the ranks.
“This is the best thing that has happened. He has graduated from the bottom and there can’t be a better candidate. He has a calm demeanor and has several qualities that will help the Indian team go even higher,” he said.
