Yuvraj allegedly made the casteist remark during an Instagram live session with Rohit Sharma in June 2020.
According to a report published in India Today, Yuvraj was arrested following which he was questioned for three hours. The southpaw was reportedly released on interim bail after the interrogation.
The complaint was lodged by advocate Rajan Kalsan in February this year for allegedly using a casteist remark to refer to his former teammate Chahal.
As per the report, Hansi SP Nitika Gahlout informed that Yuvraj joined the probe as per the directions of the court with the investigation officer on Sunday.
The FIR was registered against Yuvraj under Sections 153, 153A, 295, 505 of IPC, besides sections 3 (1) (r) and 3 (1) (s) of SC/ST Act. The FIR comes 8 months after the police complaint.
Yuvraj allegedly passed the casteist remark during an Instagram live session with India’s white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma in June 2020. Later, he had issued an apology for his unintentional mistake.
"This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception," Yuvraj Singh said in his post.
"I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody's sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same."
Coming to the matter, Yuvraj had talked about Chahal's TikTok videos during the Instagram live session, saying: "Yeh bhangi log ko kaam nahi hai yeh Yuzi aur isko (Kuldeep)."
“Yuzi ko dekha kya video daala hai apni family ke saath. Maine usko wahi bola ki apne baap ko nacha raha hai, pagal toh nahi hai tu,” Rohit had replied.
