After Virat Kohli announced that he'll step down from the post of India’s T20I captain after the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021, it is almost certain that vice-captain Rohit Sharma will take over the leadership role.

However, speculations are rife when it comes to who will become the next vice-captain in waiting of the Indian T20I team. Rohit Sharma has been the vice-captain of Indian white-ball teams since Kohli took over as the captain from MS Dhoni in 2017.

Virat Kohli proposed Rohit Sharma’s removal from ODI vice-captaincy: Report

Rohit has done a good job as the deputy helping out Virat Kohli in times of need with valuable suggestions and as a stand-in captain, had done a brilliant job leading the team to the 2018 Nidahas T20I tri-series victory.

Now as the BCCI is supposed to name the new T20I captain of the Indian team after the T20 World Cup 2021, a PTI report suggested that the board is in no hurry to announce the designated vice-captain for T20 captain-in-waiting.

But there are names floating around as options and KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are the two top choices to take over from Rohit Sharma as the next T20I vice-captain of the Indian team.

A PTI report has revealed that if Delhi Capitals wins the IPL 2021 tournament, then Rishabh Pant will be the front-runner to become the next India T20I vice-captain. Else it can be KL Rahul, while a surprising name of Jasprit Bumrah has also been suggested.

"Pant is a serious contender but you can't rule out KL also as he is an IPL captain. The darkhorse will be Jasprit Bumrah,” the source told PTI.
