Ahmadullah Wasiq, Deputy Head of the Taliban's cultural commission, has confirmed that Afghanistan’s previous scheduled matches, including the historic Test match in Australia, will go ahead without interruption amid the political uncertainties in the country.

The Taliban has no issue with cricket and has given the green signal for the sport to continue in Afghanistan, as they want good relations with all countries – which means the Afghanistan team will travel to Australia in November 2021 for the one-off Test, starting on November 27 in Hobart.

Wasiq told SBS Pashto: “[All previously organized matches] will continue without interruption, and [the Afghan team] can play with other international teams. In the future, we want good relations with all countries. When good relations are established, Afghan players can go [to Australia] and they can come here.”

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia (CA) has already started preparations for the one-off Test against Afghanistan and their spokesperson said that planning for the game is underway and both boards CA and ACB are on good terms, as they aim to make the game a reality later this year.

The CA spokesperson stated: “Cricket Australia’s planning for the historic first Test match between Australia and Afghanistan in Hobart is well underway. There is goodwill between CA and the Afghanistan Cricket Board to make the match happen, which immediately follows the ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE in which the Afghanistan team is due to play.”

He concluded, “CA will continue to work with the Australian and Tasmanian governments ahead of the Afghanistan team’s arrival planned for later this year.”
