Virat Kohli-led Team India was completely outplayed by Kane Williamson’s New Zealand in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship (WTC 2021) as the latter claimed the title with a comfortable 8-wicket win at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

After Kohli failed to end his ICC trophy drought, there was a lot of talk about the right-hand batsman’s captaincy which again started the debate of replacing Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma as the Indian skipper.

Former Pakistan opening batsman Salman Butt was one of them as he weighed in on the captaincy debate after the WTC final.

While talking in his latest YouTube video, Butt not only claimed that Rohit Sharma is a better captain than Kohli but also recalled Rohit's captaincy stint during the 2018 Asia Cup which India won in the absence of the regular skipper Kohli.

Williamson speaks on hugging Kohli; opines on India's lack of match practice before WTC 2021 Final

Personally, I feel Rohit Sharma is a better captain (than Virat Kohli). I had observed his captaincy in-depth during the Asia Cup (2018). The way he operated as stand-in captain, he looked very natural. Coming back to Virat Kohli, India was on top for five years but sadly couldn’t win the biggest match of all, so people are bound to raise questions,Butt said in a YouTube video.

You can be a very good captain but if you don’t win any title, masses won’t remember you. Maybe you are a good captain and have good plans but your bowler may not be able to execute it. So luck has to be on your side as well,” he added.

After the WTC final, the Indian team will be taking on England in a five-match Test series slated to begin from 4 August with the first Test match to be played at Trent Bridge.
