India’s heroes of their 3-1 Test series win over England Rishabh Pant and R Ashwin saw a huge upswing in their rankings in the latest ICC Test players’ rankings.
Pant, who made a breathtaking 101 in the fourth Test and 91 in the second Test against England, moved to a career-best seventh spot, entering the top 10 for the first time. Also moving one spot up was Rohit Sharma, who is now at no.7.
Washington Sundar, who also played a crucial role in India's passage to the final of the ICC World Test Championship, has gained 39 places and is in 62nd position.
In the bowlers’ rankings, R Ashwin reached the second spot, leaving Neil Wagner of New Zealand behind. He picked a total of 32 wickets in the four-Test series and also made 186 runs including a century in the second Test at Chennai.
Akshar Patel also debuted at 30th spot in Test rankings with 552 rating points thanks to 27 wickets in his debut series. Only two bowlers have achieved more points after their first three Tests – former India leg-spinner Narendra Hirwani (564) and Australia fast bowler Charlie Turner (553) who played in the 19th century.
