PAK v SA 2021: "Ultimate goal is to be number one in Tests,” says Pakistan coach Misbah-Ul-Haq

South Africa suffered a 2-0 clean sweep in the two-match Test series against Pakistan.

Pakistan head coach Misbah-Ul-Haq has his eye set on a top-three world ranking for the national side in all the formats after their first Test series win over South Africa since 2003 and said that the ultimate goal is to be number one in Tests. 

After suffering humiliating whitewash at the hand of New Zealand in the two-match Test series, Babar Azam-led side gave an invitation to lots of criticism as they didn’t put up a great show in the recently concluded New Zealand tour. 

However, replying to every critic Pakistan team regrouped together and put stellar performances as they beat South Africa by 95 runs in the second Test to complete the white-wash in the two-match Test series.

Addressing the white-wash over South Africa Pakistan head coach Misbah-Ul-Haq said that Team’s goal is to be in the top-three world ranking in all the formats.

"The ultimate goal is to be number one in Tests and top three in other formats. We have been telling the players about this target all through." Misbah told reporters on a video call Tuesday.

Misbah further praised skipper Babar Azam and said that the Pakistan team is heading in the right direction.

"We are heading in the right direction and this win over South Africa has boosted the team's confidence under a new skipper who is developing with every game," he said.

Pakistan and South Africa are now set to lock horns with each other in the three-match T20I series, which is set to begin on February 11.
