Pakistani Batsman Fawad Alam, who notched up a century against South Africa in the first Test match, said that he is enjoying his time in the Pakistani dressing room.

Replying to South Africa’s first-inning total of 220, the hosts were in a spot of bother as they found themselves tumbling at 27/4.

Fawad Alam joined hands with Azhar Ali as both the players were on the task to rescue the hosts from a precarious position and together stitched 94 runs partnership until Azhar Ali was caught by Quinton De Kock off Keshav Maharaj for 51.

However, Fawad Alam continued and notched up his third Test century to put the hosts on top in the first Test against South Africa at National Stadium Karachi.

Alam’s knock of 109 earned him the Player of the Match award as the hosts registered a seven-wicket over Proteas to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Alam talked about his hundred in the first innings and how it was crucial to managing the pressure to revive the team.

"Very important knock. The team was 27/4. The better we did in the first innings, the easier it would've been. The pressure is a lot at the international level, especially making a comeback after such a long time,” Fawad Alam said.

Fawad Alam further said that the Karachi pitch wasn't the easiest to bat on and he had to apply himself fully. He also said that he was enjoying his time in the team.

"I'm enjoying my time in the dressing room. Pitch had double (variable) bounce, double pace, there were rough patches. But the talk was about applying yourself, going with the flow, and not think about what's happening off the pitch. That was my thinking -- to apply myself," he added.

Despite Fawad Alam’s heroics, Nauman Ali had a memorable debut for Pakistan as he picked seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the second innings, to power his side to a win over South Africa on the fourth day of the first Test match.
