New Zealand pace spearhead Trent Boult has voiced his concerns about life in bio-secure bubbles in the COVID-19 era, saying staying inside a bio-bubble is a “big sacrifice” for a player.

As the sporting action has resumed behind closed doors across the world after months of a break due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak, players and others who are to be part of the games stay in a bio-secure environment as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

While the New Zealand players are preparing for the upcoming three-match T20I series against West Indies starting on 27 November in Auckland, Boult has been rested for the home series against West Indies but will feature in the 2-match Test series begins from December 3 in Hamilton.

The left-arm pacer has been away for nearly three months and is still waiting to complete 14-day quarantine in Christchurch to meet his “young family” after returning to the country on November 12 following a victorious IPL 2020 campaign with the Mumbai Indians in the UAE.

Nowadays, players and other concerned peoples have to isolate themselves before and after the game due to the COVID-19 and Boult admitted that such a lifestyle is going to play a “big role” in the players’ plans for their schedules as all the cricketing stars set for hectic schedule following the shutdown.

Boult told ESPNcricinfo, “I can't speak for everyone but it's definitely going to play a big role in the game. Having to come back to New Zealand you have to spend two weeks in a hotel before you can even be let out. It's crazy what the world is facing at the moment, it's almost surreal, and it's going to be a hard one to say what guys are feeling and what they're able to do.”

He added, “Speaking from playing in the IPL I've just been to, it's brilliant to be back out on the field and offer something for everyone to watch and it was closely followed all around the world.”

Meanwhile, the pacer will get a few days to spend time with his family before joining the New Zealand squad for the Test series against West Indies and he said “it's going to be a tough one to forecast.”

Boult signed off by saying, “Having experienced three and a half months away from my young family - I have two young boys and a wife back home whom I haven't seen - so you can imagine it's a big sacrifice to just pack up and leave for a quarter of the year and looking at potential tours next year, there's potential to be away for nine to ten months.”
