ENG v PAK 2020: Misbah-Ul-Haq has too many responsibilities, says Mohsin Khan

Misbah is the head coach-cum-head selector of the Pakistani team.

Former Pakistan head coach and chief selector Mohsin Khan believe that Misbah-Ul-Haq is overburdened with the key positions of the head coach and chief selector in all the three formats of the game after the team’s repeated, especially overseas failures under his stint since last October.

Pakistan under Misbah has only managed to win two matches against an under-strength Bangladesh this year while losing 3-0 to Sri Lanka, 2-0 to Australia, and now getting battered in England too.

On their ongoing England tour, Pakistan has already lost the three-match Test series and is going into the series-deciding third T20I on Tuesday, trailing 0-1 having lost the high-scoring second T20I by five wickets to England after the opening T20I washed out last week.

Mohsin feels a win-less England tour so far has put Misbah under pressure with many opining that the former captain is not able to handle the responsibilities of being a head coach and chief selector for all three formats and even the Pakistan Cricket Team would think about his position.

Mohsin said: “The third and final T20 is of great significance as already the popular opinion is building that Misbah is not able to handle the responsibilities of being a head coach and chief selector and that too in all three formats.”

He further recalled his stint, “I was a chief selector when the board asked me to take over as interim head coach in 2011 the first thing I did was to tell the Chairman, Ijaz Butt to release me as a chief selector as I can’t do both things.”

Noteworthy, it is being said that the PCB will have a discussion with Misbah and the other coaches when the team returns home later this week from England tour.
