Pat Cummins has been one of the most lethal pacers for Australia across formats but his performance in the longest format of the game has been sensational in recent times as he is currently the No.1 ranked in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers.
The former Australian skipper Michael Clarke also praised the right-arm pacer as he feels Cummins reads the game well, just how a captain needs to.
“Cummins reads the game really well. Yes, he's an opening bowler, but he can bat. He's brilliant in the field. He sees the game how a captain needs to,” Clarke said on Big Sports Breakfast on Sky Sports.

The former right-hand batsman then talked about how according to him, Cummins can be a candidate for Australian skipper by saying, “There's always been a lot of talk about a bowler being captain, and generally that's because the bowlers get injured. Pat has shown that he's fit, he's healthy, he can play all three formats.”
Clarke then addressed the fact that in Australia the best player is often appointed as the captain by saying, “In Australia, we have a sense of the best player needs to be the captain. I don’t agree with that. I think the best captain needs to be the captain. Steve Smith is Australia’s best batsman, but I don’t necessarily think he is the right man to captain Australia.”
