Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has played under Virat Kohli as well as Rohit Sharma. He has compared the captaincy skills of both of them in a recent interview.

Chahal has played well under the leadership of the primary skipper Virat Kohli for Team India as well as Royal Challengers Bangalore. He also delivered the goods under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma whenever Kohli was not available for a particular series.

Comparing their captaincy skills, he told Sportstar, “They (Kohli and Rohit) have a similar approach. Both of them give enough liberty to the bowlers. They back the bowlers to the hilt and give them the field placements they require, so there is not much of a difference. Maybe Virat is a bit more aggressive, Rohit isn’t.

The thinking is the same — give the players the liberty and win matches for the team. They have always given me the opportunity to play freely, without thinking about anything else. That has always been helpful,” he added.

Chahal made a comeback in the T20I series against Bangladesh after missing out a couple of series as the team management decided to try out Washington Sundar and Rahul Chahar. Rohit was the captain when Chahal returned and he performed well. He told that the captain set him in the right mindset for the series.

I think we have to work on our approach towards the DRS. Jokes apart, Rohit boosted my confidence and told me to keep the momentum going. I came back after two-three series, so he told me not to think too much about the past and focus on the future. Those words actually boosted my morale,” the leggie said.

Yuzvendra Chahal has been picked in the Indian squads for the T20I and ODI series against the West Indies.
