Karthik to lead Tamil Nadu in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy.
Dinesh Karthik has been doing brilliantly well in the domestic cricket after he was left out of the Indian team post the World Cup debacle. The 34-year-old has led Tamil Nadu into the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 finals and is now hoping to earn a place back in the Indian team.
"We have a T20 World Cup coming up and I am definitely keen on contributing to the team in the finisher's role. I feel confident playing that role and can also contribute when it comes to setting a good total batting in the middle-order," Karthik told TOI on Wednesday.

He showed good form with the willow at the recently-concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy where he scored 418 runs at an average of 59.71. "As a senior member of the stateside, it is my responsibility to be able to contribute each time I step on the field," he added.
He is set to lead a star-studded Tamil Nadu side in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy, which comprises of R Ashwin, M Vijay, and Vijay Shankar. TN had won the inaugural edition in 2006-07 beating Punjab, but have failed in subsequent tournaments.
"We haven't competed well enough and have a long way to go in T20 cricket. We are not the strongest of teams going into the competition," he said.
