The Afghanistan cricket team is currently playing a Test match against Bangladesh in Bangladesh. It will be the last for Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi as he is set to retire from the longest format after the ongoing encounter.

The news was confirmed by the team manager Nazim Jar Abdurrahimzai at the end of first day’s play at Chattogram. He said, “Yes, he [Nabi] will retire after the ongoing Test match.

The reason behind the decision was not revealed, but it is understood that it will help Nabi focus on his limited-overs career at the international level as well as the huge number of games he plays in various T20 leagues around the world.

Nabi has been a part of all the three Tests played by Afghanistan against India, Ireland and now Bangladesh. After the ongoing match, Afghanistan will be playing a Test match in November-December against the West Indies.

The 34-year-old has scored 25 runs in 5 Test innings so far including a 3-ball duck today. He has also picked 4 wickets in 3 bowling innings so far.

The ongoing Test ends on 9 September.
