I can't see why Prithvi Shaw isn't ready to play for India, says Ajit Agarkar

Shaw has been outstanding over last few years at the domestic level.

Having seen another young Mumbai batsmen climb up the ladder through the system on sheer brilliance of performances, former Indian fast-bowler Ajit Agarkar has said that he sees no reason why Prithvi Shaw can't play for India.

Shaw has been absolutely amazing for Mumbai and India A across last 2 years and was also one of the shining lights in gloom for Delhi Daredevils in Indian Premier League(IPL) 2018.

There have been calls around that he should feature in the Indian Test line up as early as for the last two Tests of the ongoing series at Southampton and The Oval in England and that has now been reiterated by Agarkar.

"He's certainly doing everything right. I haven't seen him bat in recent times for India A, as those games weren't televised. But from everything you hear from people, everyone seems to be impressed with the way he's adjusting. And the sheer amount of runs (he's scored)... That's the only way you can push your case," Agarkar who has seen a lot of Shaw through his 1418 runs in 14 First-Class games at an average of 56.72 said and added, "Whether he's ready for these two Tests(In England) at the moment, I'm not sure because I haven't seen him, but he had a hell of a season for us last year."

"Someone who's been around for a couple of years in First Class cricket and scoring as many runs as he is, I can't see any reason why he isn't ready (for international cricket)," said Agarkar, Mumbai's Chief Selector, on Shaw who recently scored a hundred against the visiting South Africa A side too.

Shaw, if he continues to be as prolific as he has been, could be playing for India very soon.
