Pakistan team was recently white-washed 0-3 by England in Test series.
Pakistan was blanked 0-3 by England in the three-Test series, with Pakistan batters failing to perform on a consistent basis. This led to the PCB announcing that some big measures will be taken to make the Pakistan team better.
An insider from the PCB stated that Shoaib Akhtar, who lives in Islamabad, has recently met the chairman of the PCB, Mohsin Naqvi, and they both talked about various cricket matters.
"A few weeks back, when Shoaib's elder brother passed away, Mohsin Naqvi had interacted with him closely and was there for him. This gesture impressed Shoaib a lot, who has been a vocal critic of the PCB and Pakistan cricket in the past in his media appearances,” the PCB source said as per PTI.
The source further added that Naqvi and Akhtar share a very good relationship and had was invited to visit the NCA and training camps.
“Shoaib is in line to get a major posting, but obviously when he met with the Chairman, he had his own set of ideas and conditions through which he believes Pakistan cricket can be taken forward,” he added.
Apart from Shoaib Akhtar joining the PCB, the board is also looking to appoint some overseas coaches and consultants with the Pakistani teams, as their senior team fielding coach and batting coach, Shane McDermott and Ashley Noffke, departed suddenly.
Furthermore, the PCB is looking for a long-term option for the head coach role of the Pakistan women’s team, which has not been doing well for some time.
“The board is working on some plans for the future, and there will be some changes in the cricket think tank soon because the chairman has made it clear that he expects better results from the national men’s, women’s, Shaheens, and junior teams,” the source stated.
The Pakistan men’s team will next face Sri Lanka at home in a series of three T20Is and then an ODI tri-series also involving England.
