BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has given a massive update about the Asia Cup trophy that the Indian men’s team won in 2025 and the Indian women’s team won in 2026. Notably, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi has been adamant about presenting the trophies to the victorious Indian teams.

However, the Indian men’s team had refused to take the trophy and medals from Mohsin Naqvi in the aftermath of his comments on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The Indian Women’s team followed suit and refused to take the winner’s medals and trophy from the PCB chief.

"Given the circumstances and the sentiments prevailing in the country, the BCCI felt that it would not be appropriate for the team to receive the trophy in the proposed manner. This was a firm institutional decision, reflective of the position we have maintained, and was not directed at the players, the tournament, or the sport,” Saikia told PTI.

After the Indian men’s team had refused to take the Asia Cup trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, the enraged PCB chief decided to take the trophy with him to the ACC office in Dubai. He has since stated that India can collect the trophy if their captain and BCCI officials come to the office and collect it from him.

However, Saikia has stated that both the Asia Cup trophies will be in India soon.

If someone is adamant about not solving the problem, then it is their call, not our call. We can only suggest, but we cannot implement it; we cannot enforce it. So that is not our role. But I can assure you... The whole country knows that BCCI is going to get back both trophies very soon.

I cannot give you a timeline, but I'm telling you that the trophies will be with us very soon. Both trophies, not only yesterday's trophy. The other trophy, which has not been with us for more than one year, will come to the cupboards of the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai very soon. And the thing is very clear: we are the champions," Saikia told Times Now.

This Asia Cup win by the India women’s team was their 8th in 10 editions of the tournament and 4th in the T20 format.
