T20 World Cup 2010 winner and former captain Kevin Pietersen has been named the specialist mentor to the England white-ball teams on Monday, September 7, 2026. He will be taking on the role in the build-up to next year’s ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
Apart from scoring 8181 runs with 23 centuries in 104 Tests for England, Kevin Pietersen also made 4440 runs at an average of 40.73 and 9 centuries in 136 ODIs. He also played 37 T20Is, scoring 1176 runs with 7 fifties and a strike rate of 141.51.
Pietersen will join the England white-ball team, coached by Brendon McCullum, for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka, which begins in England later this month. Apart from Pietersen and McCullum, the England white-ball coaching staff also includes Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Jeetan Patel, and Sarah Taylor.
In addition, he will participate in the white ball tours to Australia and South Africa this winter. Next summer, he will rejoin the sides for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup and the home series against Pakistan and New Zealand.
During the IPL 2025, Pietersen served as a mentor for the Delhi Capitals. Over the following 15 months, he will use his extensive knowledge to work with the teams and individual players.
Pietersen, who was born and raised in South Africa, will be especially useful to the England ODI side as it gets ready for the World Cup next year.

England will host Sri Lanka for 3 T20Is starting September 15, while the 3-ODI series will begin on September 22.
