Pakistan has lost the first two Tests in England, with the third to be played in Birmingham.
One of the seven players dropped from Pakistan's squad declined to attend the meeting with King Charles ahead of the third Test, which would be contested at Edgbaston.
The unnamed player did not show up in protest of the PCB's decision to withdraw him and six others from the Pakistan squad following an embarrassing 194-run defeat at Lord's, thus ending Pakistan's prospects in the series.
The whole Pakistani team, including the seven players who were dropped, was told to meet the King at Clarence House, according to The Telegraph. In addition to the norm of a touring team meeting the King, the encounter is motivated by worries that, given the turmoil in Pakistani cricket, the third Test may see low attendance.
Four of the seven players—Awais Zafar, Aamir Jamal, Khurram Shahzad, and Ali Usman—are reportedly present at the event, while two unidentified players said they were reluctant to go because of all that had happened with the PCB and the squad during the previous week.
But in protest, the seventh player skipped the meeting. The cricket players were told that attendance was mandatory.
The meeting saw King Charles speaking to the Pakistani players. Offering encouraging words to the youngsters, while Pakistan captain Babar Azam presented the king with a signed bat, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi also presented him with a gift.
With the series already lost, Pakistan could only play for pride in Birmingham. Meanwhile, the replacements for the seven ousted cricketers have yet to be named.
Many former Pakistani cricketers have criticized the team's drastic changes. The PCB then sent the selectors a show-cause notice regarding the choice, and the board's decision to use LinkedIn to find a fielding coach was greeted with conflicting opinions.
