Mitchell Starc shredded Bangladesh’s batting lineup with a masterclass spell of 6/12 in 10 overs, spearheading Australia's savage response on Day 1 of the second Test in Mackay.

Following a humiliating nine-wicket loss to Bangladesh in the first Test in Darwin, Australia clinical dismantled the visitors.

Starc removed opener Shadman Islam with the very first ball of the match. This marked a record fourth time in his career that he has taken a wicket on the opening delivery of a Test. The left-arm quick tore through the top order to claim five wickets in just his first 22 deliveries, leaving Bangladesh in tatters at 12/5.

Despite a brief 10th-wicket resistance, Bangladesh collapsed completely to be bowled out for just 64 shortly after lunch.

At the lunch break, Starc walked off the field with a massive grin to find his wife, former Australia women's captain Alyssa Healy, waiting to interview him for Fox Sports.

The chat quickly filled with lighthearted banter. Healy asked Starc, "Yeah, who would have thought they'd stitch this one up? I paid for dinner last night. Does that mean it's now your turn?"

Starc replied: "You're paid the bigger bucks than I am."

As the conversation shifted to cricket, Healy enquired whether winning the toss and choosing to bowl was exactly what Australia had hoped for.

In response, Starc teased Healy by saying that she had actually played more matches at the Mackay venue than the Australian men’s team.

"You said it before, you've played here more than the rest of us, but, yeah, I mean, we clearly weren't at our best last week," Starc said.

"To get first use of that wicket, a lot of the Queenslanders here have said it's a lot like the Gabba. So, yeah, to make first use of that in the first session, you can't be too unhappy. Six in the first session, can't beat that. Obviously a little bit of anger. It's worked well so far, hopefully we can keep it up."

Pat Cummins returned with the figures of 3/25, while Josh Hazlewood claimed the other wicket as Australia’s pace attack carried out a total demolition job in Mackay.

Australia's day did not remain completely one-sided as Bangladesh hit back with the ball, reducing the hosts to 50/3 by tea.
