Amir highlighted Kohli's composure under immense pressure.
Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir chose Virat Kohli as the most challenging batter he has ever faced, highlighting the Indian stalwart’s supreme skill and composure under immense pressure.
Kohli has an extraordinary record against Pakistan, featuring multiple centuries, high batting averages, and legendary match-winning performances in the white-ball formats.
Over 28 matches played spanning from 2009 to 2025, the star batter has scored roughly 1,270+ runs against Pakistan at an average exceeding 63.50 with 4 centuries.
Kohli holds a phenomenal average of over 70 with nearly 500 runs in T20Is against the arch-rivals. He amassed over 300 runs specifically in T20 World Cup games, famously earning multiple Player-of-the-Match awards for iconic knocks like his unbeaten 82* at Melbourne in 2022.
In 17 ODI innings, Kohli has amassed 778 runs against Pakistan at an average close to 60, including four centuries and two fifties.
In his head-to-head battle with Amir, Kohli had dominated on most occasions, with the left-armer getting rid of him cheaply only in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.
Speaking to Wisden, Amir opened on his rivalry with the Indian legend and said: "For this generation, I've said it many times, Virat Kohli is the toughest batter I have bowled to. When you look at his consistency, the way he controls his game, and how he finishes matches, there is simply no match for him in modern cricket."
While rating Kohli clear of current competition, Amir noted that former Australian stars Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson gave him tough competition during his early international days.
"Among former players, Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson were extremely difficult to bowl to. But if we talk about current players, Virat Kohli stands at the top without a shadow of a doubt," he remarked.
Having retired from T20Is and Tests, Virat Kohli now only plays a single format for India. He recently featured in the three-match ODI series against England.
