Sooryavanshi has taken the cricketing world by storm with his breathtaking exploits this season.
Sooryavanshi carried his stunning form into the IPL 2026. Playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR), he won the Orange Cap and was named the Most Valuable Player for scoring 776 runs in 16 innings at a staggering strike rate of 237.30, including one hundred, five half-centuries and a record 72 sixes in an IPL season.
As a result, the 15-year-old earned his maiden India call-up as he got selected in the T20I squads for the UK tour, Zimbabwe tour and the Asian Games.
Recently, former Australia opener Justin Langer heaped praise on Sooryavanshi, hailing his explosive batting display in the IPL over the last two seasons.
“Yeah, this Sooryavanshi, this kid, this Indian who’s just got Man of the Match in his second One Day International or third One Day International the other day. We coached against him two seasons ago, and he’s 14 years old. We didn’t even talk about him in the team talk, he’s 14,” Langer, who coaches Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, said on Stick to Cricket show.
He added, “Like, he walks out, strolls out to bat, and we’ve got, um, one of our international bowlers bowling. His first ball in IPL cricket. His first—and we’re just sitting there, I was just about to have my first cup of coffee to watch the first ball of the IPL—hits it for six over cover. His first ball in IPL cricket. And we went…
“And then he got 30 off not much, waddles off. Two games later, he gets the second-fastest 100 in the history of IPL. Then we played him this year for Rajasthan Royals. We got 230. Before you could blink, the game was over. He got 90 off 30 pills! He’s 15 years old! And there’s talent… so much talent.”
Before travelling to UK with the T20I squad, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi represented India A in a tri-nation A series in Sri Lanka. He registered modest scores of 14, 44, 21 and 38 during the round-robin stage, but lit up the final with a knock of 29-ball 94 against Sri Lanka A, including a record 11-ball fifty, paving the way for India A’s title clinching 66-run victory.
While Sooryavanshi failed to make a mark in his debut T20I series against England, he bagged the Player-of-the-Series award in the subsequent tour of Zimbabwe, where India pulled off a 3-0 whitewash.
The southpaw displayed his repertoire of strokes as he amassed 151 runs at a strike rate of 196.10, including two half-centuries in three innings.
