Morkel and ten Doeschate were chosen by Gambhir when he became India head coach in 2024.
The contracts of the Indian team coaching staff are up for discussion after the England ODI series, and as per Times of India, Ten Doeschate and Morkel are exploring other options after their contracts expire.
“Doeschate isn’t very sure of continuing with this job. He has conveyed his problems with travelling with the team throughout the year. Morkel is still weighing his options. The board is discussing the matter with the two coaches and will try to see if things can be sorted out,” a BCCI source told Times of India.
In the first week of August, the Indian team is scheduled to depart for a two-Test series in Sri Lanka. For India's three-match T20I series in Zimbabwe during the final week of July, VVS Laxman, the head of cricket at the Centre of Excellence (CoE), will bring his CoE coaching staff.
Doeschate might be in negotiations with an IPL team, according to sources, but Morkel hasn't made any official statements yet.
The BCCI might have to send Lakshmipathy Balaji, who was just hired as the CoE's fast bowling coach, to Sri Lanka if issues with Doeschate and Morkel aren't resolved.
On the other hand, BCCI is also reportedly not happy with fielding coach T Dilip after seeing Indian players’ deteriorating fielding standards. Dilip got a reprieve last year after being sacked along with Abhishek Nayar.
